A Mormon president?

We all by know that there is a member of the LDS Church running for US president in 2008 - Mitt Romney (aka "Mitt the Mormon"). The church has come under scrutiny with Mitt running and there has been a lot already in the media about it.

Here's a well-written in-depth article by Laurie F. Maffly-Kipp, who teaches American religious history at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. She explores Mormonism and the implications of what it would mean to have an active, practicing Mormon as president. Ms. Maffly-Kipp focuses her attention on what she feels are the three most relevant issues: religious authority, moral values and church and state. I thought this would be a negative article about the church, but actually it's quite good.
