Great Christmas news for the Wananga

The Waitangi Tribunal has found in favour of Te Wananga o Aotearoa which is excellent news. (See: http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/0,2106,3521347a10,00.html) The government wanted mostly Maori people and mostly Maori type courses in the Wananga. I cannot see how they can do this. It's introducing apartheid education into New Zealand! I am very glad that the Wananga will still be for ALL New Zealanders (including me!)

Morality Test

MORALITY TEST .
This test only has one question, but it's a very important one. Please don't answer it without giving it some serious thought. By giving an honest answer you will be able to test where you stand morally.
The test features an unlikely, completely fictional situation, where you will have to make a decision one-way or the other. Remember that your answer needs to be honest, yet spontaneous.
Please scroll down slowly and consider each line - this is important for the test to work accurately. You're in Florida...In Miami, to be exact... There is great chaos going on around you, caused by a hurricane and severe floods. There are huge masses of water forming devastating waves. You are a news photographer and you are in the middle of this great disaster.
The situation is nearly hopeless - but you know that you will alive. You're trying to shoot very impressive photos. There are houses and people floating around you, disappearing into the water. Nature is showing all its destructive power, and is ripping everything away with it.
Suddenly, you see a man in the water, and he is fighting for his life, trying not to be taken away by the masses of water and mud. You move closer. Somehow the man looks familiar. And suddenly you know who it is. It's George W. Bush! At the same time you notice that the raging waters are about to take him away ... forever.
You have two options. You can try to save him or you can take the best photo of your life. So, you can save the life of George W. Bush, or you can shoot a Pulitzer Prize winning photo. A unique photo displaying the death of one of the world's most powerful men.
And here's the question: (Please give an honest answer) Would you select colour film, or go with the simplicity of classic black and white?

The end of Star Trek

It was a very sad day today. Sky1 channel here in New Zealand screened the final episode of Star Trek Enterprise. It was an excellent episode.

I can't believe that Star Trek is now over after 18 years continuously on television. Star Trek is the greatest sci-fi of all time and I must say that it is extremely sad that it is all over now. I really hope there will be more Star Trek in the future whether it be in the form of TV series or movies. It's the 4oth anniversary of Star Trek next year so maybe they will do something for that.

Star Trek hasn't been treated very well on NZ television. It started off on TV3, then moved to TV4 (now C4), then Prime, and finally pay TV channel Sky1. I must say though that Sky1 have done an excellent job in screening Enterprise. Let's hope they screen some older series sometime.

Don't know what to do on a Friday night now!!

Auditor-General's report on Te Wananga o Aotearoa

Check it out at:

http://www.oag.govt.nz/2005/twoa/default.htm

Auditor-General's report into the Wananga is out

The Auditor-General's report into Te Wananga o Aotearoa has been finally tabled in parliament today. (See: http://www.newstalkzb.co.nz/newsdetail1.asp?storyID=85638)

Now as an employee of the Wananga I had better not comment too much about the report itself, however I will provide a link on this blog to the actual report when I find it out.

Through all this we must remember that Te Wananga o Aotearoa has done marvellous work for the people of New Zealand, especially the thousands that would not have had a good education if it wasn't for the Wananga.

I like what Maori Affairs Minister Parekura Mamamia has said about all this "The wananga is bigger than any one individual." That is so true!

Chaos at the cricket

At the first ODI cricket match between Australia & New Zealand on Saturday at Eden Park in Auckland there was some unruly behaviour from the crowd. Forty people were evicted from the game and 10 were arrested after abuse and missiles were hurled at the Australians. (See: http://www.newstalkzb.co.nz/newsdetail1.asp?storyID=85523)

So at the second ODI tomorrow at the CakeTin the front three rows have been removed from sale to provide a buffer between players and fans. That will stop them throwing stuff onto the ground - yeah right!

The problem is of course alcohol. They can increase security and create "buffer zones" but this will not stop drunken idiots doing crazy things at cricket matches. A lot of people go to the cricket to watch the cricket. Unfortunately there are others who go to the cricket to have a legal outside drinking party! So alcohol has to be totally banned at these sporting fixtures.

But will alcohol be banned - of course not! Why? Because of money! I'm sure it brings in much revenue for the stadium, NZ Cricket, etc. If alcohol sales were banned at cricket matches then less people would buy tickets to the matches, hence less money would be made from the match.

So what's more important - money, or the patron's and player's safety?
