"Bloody Mary" South Park

Good news South Park fans. C4 will be screening the controversial South Park episode about Catholics tomorrow night. (See: http://www.c4tv.co.nz/)

Here's an email I sent to Newstalk ZB yesterday that Danny Watson read out on air:

I've been listening with fascination to the various callers about the controversial episode of South Park featuring the Catholic faith. I personally think they should just get over it. My church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon), has been made fun of a number of times on South Park and I never heard any complaints in the media about this! (The Mormon church is now one of the larger churches in this country too).
In fact just a couple of weeks ago an episode of South Park featured quite a bit about the beliefs of my church. Some of it was correct, and some of it wasn't. Actually I got a good laugh out of it! I'm not going to let this episode offend me - it hasn't affected my beliefs at all. I'm not going to stop watching South Park. I'm not going to stop watching TV3 and C4 or boycott their advertisers.
Everyone is going to have their beliefs challenged or mocked at some stage. They just need to get over it. If you believe that your beliefs are true and they make you happy then that's all that matters.

New prophet cartoon

Please don't go rioting or killing people over this cartoon of our prophet...

Vice President Dick Cheney shoots someone

You've probably heard this by now, US Vice President Dick Cheney shot and wounded a hunting mate on a ranch in Texas. (See: http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/02/12/cheney/index.html)

I think this is flippin hilarious!!! What a complete nutter Cheney is. How could he shoot someone just 30 metres away??!! Apparently Cheney was aiming for a quail - the quail was uninjured. Who gave this idiot a gun? Come to think of it, who in their right mind would vote for this idiot?? It's NOW time for both Bush and Cheney to resign!

Joseph Smith: Prophet of the Restoration

Today I was very privileged to see the new movie "Joseph Smith The Prophet of the Restoration" (see: http://www.lds.org/events/info/0,8197,726-1-571,00.html) I saw it at the Hamilton New Zealand Temple Visitors Centre in Temple View.

It's great that at last a movie has been made by the church covering the whole life of Joseph Smith. It was a real eye opener as to what life was really like for Joseph Smith and the Saints in those early days of the church. I have to say that you do get a bit emotional while watching the movie. Joseph Smith lived an absolutely incredible life. I am so happy that the people of that day followed him despite all the trials they went through. And because of Joseph Smith and the other Saints this has led to what The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is today - a worldwide church of over 12 million members and one of the fastest growing church on the world.

So if you're in Hamilton I strongly suggest you go to the Visitors Centre in Temple View and view the movie - you'll be glad you did!

Mohammed cartoons published in New Zealand

You may have heard by now about the controversial cartoons of the Muslim Prophet Mohammed that were publish in a Danish newspaper. Apparently Muslims around the world are very upset about this as they do not like images of their prophet in any form, especially ones depicting him as a terrorist. However, because this has become quite a big news story around the world, The Dominion Post newspaper in New Zealand is going to publish the cartoons (see http://www.newstalkzb.co.nz/newsdetail1.asp?storyID=89102)

And while we're on the subject of religious groups being offended, the Catholic church wants an episode of South Park banned which is about a bleeding statue of Mary (see http://www.nzherald.co.nz/organisation/story.cfm?o_id=409&ObjectID=10364195)

GET OVER IT!!! Any type of group in the world, whether it be religious, political, or whatever is going to be made fun of at some stage. My church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons), is made fun of all the time. For example South Park mentions Mormons often. An episode I watched on C4 the other night featured our first prophet, Joseph Smith (season seven episode "All About the Mormons"). Some of what they talked about was accurate, and some wasn't, but I got a good laugh out of it!

People are going to make fun of your religion and even put it down. But if you believe in your religion, if you believe that it is true and it make you happy, then that's all that matters.
