The Queens Birthday Honours List came out yesterday for 2006 (see: http://www.newstalkzb.co.nz/newsdetail1.asp?storyID=97139) - bugger, I missed out again!
Now that New Zealand has got rid of the British honours system, including Knights and Dames, then why on earth have a NZ honours list come out on Queens Birthday?? It does not make sense to me! Shouldn't our honours list come out on our national holiday?

Why should be have a system which honours those already honoured.. i.e. sportsmen / politicians / academics / business leaders.
Isn’t it about time honours are only bestowed to those doing unpaid (or poorly paid) community services?
Maybe then we might have respect for the recipients – rather than wondering how much of a political party donation they’d just made…
